Hello everyone,
I'm really happy with your answer since few questions i've submited on
the list they 100% helping & directing me.
I'm actually looking for a POS & invoicing software that runs on
ubuntu (like fincon, pastel POS,Ultisales etc... Running on windows).
That software can be Straight from the repo or somewhere else on the
internet but must be opensource, flexible, stable and/or ready to work
on ubuntu. I actually got my own business on the track and i'm using
ubuntu jaunty on all the computers there (no dualboot),but i really
want to jump to the uplevel, means, start selling to people by using
invoice number given to each client/order, so things can be easily
controlled over there.
So, your advices going to help me a lot achieving this correctly.
Thanks !

Google is your friend. Look for "open source invoicing software"... :)

http://www.jbilling.com/
And for POS :
Read this :

And this : http://www.open-mag.com/03062472135.shtml
In terms of software :

Don't know anything about it, but check out LEMONPOS. It is in the
Synaptic list and you can Google it to find the sites and blog.

So show some initiative. If you like the work in its current state, get
some company to add what it's missing in it for you and make it live.
That's one of the things about open source. Somebody interested can
ALWAYS pick it up even if it's currently stale.

There was a thread recently regarding POS. Not sure this will help, but
it's worth a look:

[POS software]
For invoicing & billing software you can try:

I believe this would be a great niche market for linux and consultants,
especially with the current economic downturn and Windows tax and lockin.

Yes, Indeed. I work with a friend who wrote the POS and backoffice
apps from scratch using Java.
The features:
1. Support POS thin/fat client mode. Works with any flavour of Linux.
Slax, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.
2. Support USB client boot for emergency mode/convenient.
3. High availability on the backoffice system using Linux-ha.
4. Data is protected using DRBD (net mirroring).
5. Works with barcode scanner / manual input.
6. Invoice printing. Customized report, etc.
7. Endless possibility :)
It's being used on one of the biggest supermarket in town. You can
imagine our nervousness and excitement when they use it on the 1st day
and also was the busiest festive month. Fortunately, no incident at
all.

I'd be surprised if it would be a "great" niche market, but I'd be equally
surprised if the purchases -care- what software is on it, as long as it
works. I really doubt many restaurateurs specifically ask for a "Windows"
POS. They might ask for specific POS apps.

Hi, it's not just an invoicing software, because it's a complete ERP
system, but i can suggest you to visit:
http://www.openerp.com and http://www.openobject.com
OpenObject (the framework behind OpenERP) provides more than 500
additional modules, including POS plugins.
Some guys from Spain have released a nice KDE gui, useful when you need
to work with touchscreen POS devices
cheers

all in one /restaurant POS software (Chinese Co.) combo with Windows XP Pro
for under $1K after a $100.00 rebate. In my experience the restaurant market
is price sensitive as I work with mom and pop restaurants.
